Sailing with children

Having children doesn't mean you have to say no to the good things in life. There is no difference in sailing with children and sailing without. You just have to make sure your children enjoy the yacht and sailing as much as possible and the crew needs to be prepared for the possibility of changed plans.

Some good advice on the way:

Life vest
An important safety measure even if the children know how to swim and the water is pleasant. Small children should have special vests.

When the children are in the saloon it is ok to take the vest off if the weather is good. Remember to keep the the vests on in the marina - running around on the jetty can be dangerous.

Navigare Yachting provides childrens vests, but you must notify us well in advance on the crew list, including weight and age of the child.

Seasickness
When the sea is rough the best thing is to sit in the fresh air and not inside the yacht. Another thing is to make sure the children have eaten properly, then seasickness rarely occurs.

Itinerary
When planning the trip make sure you have a backup plan in case of any unforeseen events.

Safety net
When travelling with small children, a safety net is a good safety measure.Contact us well in advance to book (at a small extra fee).

Entertainment
A good tip is to bring a friend. Two children have more fun than one! Also bring the childrens favourite toys and books.

The older children like to use the dinghy which is a good start to learn more about the sea. Make sure to teach them to respect the sea and surrounding people and nature.

Snorkeling is a great activity, keep your children in sight at all times. Don't forget sunscreen as the sun is very strong, wearing a t-shirt even in the water is a protection together with sunscreen.

Overall it is important to wear high sunblock together with sunglasses and a cap.

It is also important to drink a lot of water  - even when you don't feel thirsty! Bring bottles and write names on them, then you can keep track on how much each person is drinking.
